Friends of Hospice San Antonio was organized in 1991 by a small group of volunteers concerned with the availability of hospice services, helping to ensure no one is denied care due to their inability to pay. Over three and one-half million dollars has been raised for hospice patients.
Fundraising dollars come from membership dues, grants, memorials, and year round events and activities. Donations obtained from fundraising events are used to support uninsured and underinsured patients.
Friends of Hospice partners with the only non-profit religious-based hospice in San Antonio, CHRISTUS VNA Hospice and Palliative Care San Antonio. Friends raises money for uninsured patients and for furnishings for the CHRISTUS Sister Mary Inpatient Hospice Center (see video under Education).
A prayer book is available for hospice patients and family members, as well as other interested persons. Friends of Hospice provide refreshments for families attending the annual CHRISTUS VNA Hospice Memorial Service.
